Empowering change comes from within and is supported by the community of healthy individuals that we choose to have around us. We live in a world that can often feel frenetic, disengaged and lacking empathy. Clients and I work together to bring about that inner change and outward connection, to connect back to what lights them up, discover barriers that keep us from connecting, and work to reignite that passionate self. Since 2008 I have worked with those that are navigating tough life transitions and are in a stage of sometimes painful but restorative growth.
White Oak Restorative Therapies was created to be a center for therapeutic healing from trauma and to train the next generation of therapy students in the treatment of traumatic stress.
With 17 years of clinical experience, Dr. Erin Roberts brings deep expertise in trauma recovery--particularly relationship healing, childhood trauma and religious trauma. She holds both an MSSW-MFT and PhD from the University of Louisville and is trained in EMDR. A dedicated trainer as well, she holds a state NCAMFT Training Award for her contributions to student training.
As an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and Clinical Faculty at East Carolina University, she has spent the last decade mentoring and training master's-level family therapy students. For ten years, Erin also served as the clinic director of the ECU Family Therapy Clinic, while actively engaging in community work, public speaking, and research focused on trauma prevention and treatment.
Originally from Seattle and Southern California, Erin has called Pitt County home for the past 10 years and the South home for 20. She's married to the biggest Duke fan on the planet, is a proud mom of two and loves spending time with her family and dog, Prim, Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys creative writing, reading, music and dancing and long walks in the forest.
I strive to create a warm, engaging and interactive space where you can feel seen, heard, and empowered. Above all, my commitment is to walk alongside you with compassion, curiosity, and respect, helping you move from surviving your past towards thriving in your present and future.
Here is what you can expect when we work together:
We ask thoughtful, in-depth questions that gently challenge you to explore feelings, beliefs, and patterns that you may not have noticed before. By shining a light on hidden corners of your experience, we uncover the stories you tell yourself--and give you the opportunity to rewrite them.
Therapy isn't about me telling you who you are; it's about helping you discover -- or rediscover -- the powerful narrative inside you. Together, we map the themes, strengths, and wisdom you've developed over a lifetime, and we lean into those resources as we move forward.
Healing is a collaborative journey. In session, you'll find practical exercises, reflective writing prompts, role-plays and real-time feedback. My goal is to equip you with tools you can carry into daily life -- so the work we do together stays with you long after you leave the office.
We believe that "Trauma doesn't know time" that wounds from years or even decades ago can continue to shape how you feel, relate and cope today. Our approach honors this reality: we work at your pace, creating safety, building stabilization skills, and using evidence-based interventions such as EMDR to gently process and integrate painful memories. In addition, we work to expand your team to get you the support that you need to heal and grow.
